4 Window Cleaning Tips for Fall

Fall is the best time to pull out your window cleaning tools from the storage area and give the windows a good and thorough washing. It is easier to achieve streak-free windows when the days filled with summer sun are behind you and the outdoor breeze feels much cooler. Here are some tips to help you achieve clean windows and make it look like it was done by a professional.

1. You need to wait for the right day. Nobody likes washing the windows on a cold, rainy day. You may end up frustrated when the rainwater washes out what you have been working on. The perfect time is on a nice overcast day — when the sky is covered with clouds and there is not much sunlight beaming down. This keeps the sun from drying the cleaning solution too quickly.

2. Use the right cleaning materials. There is more to window washing than a roll of paper towels and a bottle of a glass cleaner. Make sure to invest in a good quality squeegee, a window washing solution and a strip washer. These tools will help you clean your specialty windows in a faster speed and more efficient way.

3. Do not forget to clean the screens. Take off the screens to allow full access to your windows. Lift the screen into a vertical position and wash it gently with a mixture of soap and water using a sponge or dishcloth. You may also use a degreasing solution to get rid of the grime.

4. Wipe down your windows in a horizontal manner. Plunge your strip washer into a bucket of soapy water and make horizontal stripes across the window. Make sure that the stripes overlap a couple of inches. And then, grab your squeegee and hold it at a 30-degree angle. Wipe in the same order you put the soap on. Use a soft towel to wipe off the soap before proceeding to the next row.
